PE/ School Sport 2015-16

At Abram Bryn Gates there has always been a great emphasis on children’s health and well being.  Good quality PE/ Sport/ Music movement has always been a priority with the school employing specialist staff whose expertise alongside school staff has ensured this.  For the academic year 2015 / 16 the school has been allocated £8815 to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sports provision. 

The school intends to use this funding in the following way: 

£1,306 to allow teachers and support staff to work alongside specialist providers in PE, sport, music and movement. 

£350 specialist dance tuition to engage all classes in dance and movement. 

£350 allocated to Wigan Warriors Community Foundation to provide whole school, full day specialist sports tuition.

£500 allocated to the Hindley Cluster Sports Association to participate in inter and intra school sports events and transport costs.

£50 allocated to the Ashton Cluster Sports Association to participate in inter and intra school sports event.

£500 allocated to purchasing specialist equipment for dinnertime clubs.

£500 contribution towards the purchasing of equipment to keep children active at dinnertime under the supervision of well trained welfare staff (e.g. space hoppers/ skipping ropes/ stilts/ bean bags/ balance beam)

£772 for the hiring of the Wigan Metropolitan Club Life Education Centre - mobile classroom providing excellent hands on experience for children, regarding healthy choices and personal wellbeing and activity

£2,304 allocated towards the implementation, resources/ and running costs of 4 x dinnertime/ 2 x after school PE/ games/ fitness related extra curricular clubs.

£2,183 contribution to the cost of specialist provision (Artis Education) to enrich the curriculum across both Key Stages using dance, mime, acting etc.

2015/16 Impact to date 

An indication of the impact this funding is having on the participation of children in health/ fitness related extra curricular activities that is just in the first 6 weeks of the new academic year Sept/Oct 2015.

The school partnership with Artis/ dance/ drama company provides every child in school with one terms high quality delivery of an active dance/ drama programme delivered by experts in their field.

The school partnership with MS Sports ensure that every class has at least one hour a week of high quality skills based PE/ games provision delivered by highly qualified coaches.  School based staff are given the opportunity to work alongside the coaches to increase their skills and level of expertise.

At present the Y3 cohort receive 1 x 30 minutes swimming provision each week.  In the Summer term Y2 join Y3 for a 6 week preparation programme.

Participation in the Hindley and Ashton Cluster Sports Association provides the opportunity for children to take part in inter and intra schools sports events.

In 2014/15 the school took part in a variety of inter school football tournaments – Y6 / Y5 / Y2.

Visitors to school have included Wigan Warriors/ Leigh Centurions/WiganAthletic/ Everton FC international athletics have all helped raise the profile of sport in the environment.

PE & Sport Grant 2014-15

School received £8,800 for the academic year 2014/15. School intends to use this funding to facilitate extra curricular after school football and rugby clubs, lunchtime sports activities, specialist dance / drama coaches, Wigan Warriors Community Foundation specialist multi sports full day whole school activity, additional sports equipment. Any unspent amount will be carried forward to 2015/16 to further improve the quality and breadth of PE and sports delivery

Impact

The impact of this spending has been that every child in school has participated in PE, sport, movement, dance and mime activities delivered by trained and / or specialist teachers over and above that offered through the curriculum.                     

PE & Sport Grant 2013-14

For the academic year 2013/14 the school has been allocated £8245 to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sports provision.

The school intends to use this funding in the following way with a pro-rata 50% between this funding and Pupil Premium.

£1550 allocated to 33 weeks dance/ drama curriculum programme.

£3542.50 allocated to 33 weeks skills based sports curriculum programme.

£613.75 allocated to 33 weeks swimming provision.

£1500 allocated to subsidising dinnertime/ after school sports related clubs.

£100 allocated to the Hindley Cluster Sports Association to participate in inter and intra school sports events.

£50 allocated to the Ashton Cluster Sports Association to participate in inter and intra school sports events.

£250 contribution towards extra training for the school welfare ladies in the promotion and development of games and activities at playtimes (Sept/Oct 2013)

£638.75 contribution towards purchase of sports/ PE equipment to develop further opportunities for the development of the school sport/ PE provision (12 footballs purchased, 12 rugby balls purchased, a variety of skipping ropes, small balls, bats etc.)
